We were climbing Pikes Peak in Colorado. I was in shape, but for some crazy reason (Mountain/Elevation) I was fatigued out the wazoo.
We had spent the better part of the morning hiking. We had a few other people with us. We did the standard break every 10-15 minutes or so. We timed everything out and yet, it was still really difficult to get to the top.
We get to the top and me being afraid of heights (a little) am hugging the ground, thanking my creator for making it up the climb. Just as I try to get up onto my shaky legs, I see a car pull up. A freaking car.
The window is cracked and smoke coming out of it. The door opens up and out comes a woman who clearly hadn’t worked out in a very long time. She’s smoking a cigarette. She walks around the car, holding something black in her hands. She gets near the edge of the cliff, puts her cigarette gently on the car, and pulls out her camera. She took a selfie, picked up the cigarette, and got back in the car, only to disappear down the mountain.
I say this not to knock the woman. I say this to remind you that SUCCESS isn’t the TOP. Success is every step of the climb. It is every doubt that you squashed in order to get a little higher. It is the small wins that create the step by step celebrate the success mentality.
Success isn’t the destination…it is WHO YOU BECOME as a result of the journey. God Bless
