A Halloween Treat for Our Educators

Today is Halloween and I would like to give you a treat. The words of wisdom for today come from one of the world’s best story tellers, Clare Murphy (@StoryClare). Some educators are going through a difficult time in having to stay virtual until the beginning of ’21. We hope this helps keep you inspired.

Everything is about telling a story. Whether it is business, coaching, or you are in the classroom trying to educate your students in person or virtually. Here are 4 things you can implement to mix things ups and keep yourself INSPIRED. Please keep in mind that Clare did an amazing job providing the initial insight. I just wanted to go deeper with the questions.

1.     TECHNICAL

a.     Look at camera angles. How are they positioned and how might you be able to change it up in order that it doesn’t feel like the same old thing every day?

b.     Think of lighting. What does the lighting look and feel like if you were watching yourself?

c.     Being mindful about using your hands and face. What are those non-verbal cues providing your students?

2.     Exhaustion

a.     How much is enough for 1 session? It isn’t about the quantity of your time on screen but the quality and level we can maintain energy levels.

3.     Spice of Life

a.     Keeping the variety in screen interaction to maintain attention. How can we get the students telling a story or engaged in a story through these interactions?

4.     Be Human

We cannot fully understand what is being communicated while being online. It is very difficult to hear words without seeing verbal cues and receive what is intended. “Look for ways to embody human aspect of interaction online.”
