I have heard some awesome speakers live as well as when they speak on podcast, or in the case of 2020/2021, virtually. If you pay attention closely you will notice one specific thing they all do well. They pause.
This isn’t for dramatic effect. At least most of the time. It is strictly for you the listener. They want to give you time to resonate with the message, to have it hit inside of you. They want you to catch up. We as listeners are processing all this information, be it words or through nonverbal cues. When listening to someone speak we are all a little behind.
As we have the opportunity this Monday and the rest of the week to create a relaxing experience with those we serve, make sure that we practice the power of the pause. Practice it when someone asks you a question. Practice it when you ask someone a question. Practice it when you are praising another.
Practice the pause to create the relaxing experience. Practice the pause to create a powerful impact. Have a great day and God Bless
