LET'S TALK PACE

As we proceed to begin looking at building up for our trek in the mountains of Colorado, we will shift weekly blogs onto different focuses to have you best prepared. Please feel free to tweak this to your team in the office or business.

Finding the right hiking pace is super difficult when going with a team or large group. It is very different from your personal pace to hiking up the mountain. As we climb, we recognize the varying levels of capability and athletic ability. Some participants will be slower in nature and some will be much faster.

As a group of experienced hikers, we will look to stop every half hour, depending on the trail conditions and elevation hiked. As we go with a less experienced group, we will look at slowing down and stopping for 2-3 minutes every 15-20 minutes.

We recognize that there will be slower individuals that gravitate to the back of the pack and some who are faster that tend to lead the pack. This is something we monitor constantly to make sure that everyone is able to rest appropriately and maintain for the long haul.

There will be times where the faster/stronger participants will be asked to carry water or weight from packs of the slower individuals to even out the pace. This does not happen often but we our leaders are prepared to make the designation should the need be there.

See you all next week as we prepare for the Mountain Leadership Experience.
