Who Wants To Be Around You?

I was reminded by a mentor today about the power a great leader has. The influence a leader has pulls you into their sphere. It isn’t a knee-jerk type of reaction. It is a much more subtle pulling movement. Can you think of anyone like this? Does anyone in particular come to mind?

Who’s sphere would you want to join? What is it about them that makes you want to join? How might you be able to emulate those attributes in your life?

Here are 5 things great leaders do to PULL you into their sphere.

1. Affirming others in conversation - Great leaders work to ensure that people feel validated. It doesn’t matter if its calls, relationships, or meetings. You leave the conversation feeling validated.

2. Empathy and Allowance of Feelings - Great leaders understand that the people they serve are entitled to feel however they want. It is the job of the leader to respond to their current and very present experience.

3. Dig Out Curiosity - Great leaders ask great questions. The more passionate you are about questioning and discovering others', the more it becomes contagious for those you serve.

4. Bring the Joy - Great leaders leave this excitement and joy when you leave the conversation. What might happen if you focused on doing this 3 times per day? What would happen to your life as well as the lives of those you serve?

5. Be a Storyteller - Stop striving to share advice, instead, try telling stories. Watch my friend Clare Murphy tell a story and feel the power of storytelling. Throw out the idea of lectures and shift your thoughts to painting pictures.
