High 5 - Greg White

Greg White has been a mentor of mine for the past 4 years. He has helped me tremendously in becoming a better coach, person, and most importantly Husband/Father. He has worked with Snow Valley Basketball, USA Basketball, Hoop Heads Podcast, Arkansas coaching clinics and Northwest Arkansas areas to better help coaches and players. He is amazing at getting your potential out!

Get a sticky note out and steal a nugget you can use today. God Bless!

What about your coaching has evolved this past year?

I think the biggest thing was learning to trust myself more. We struggled early, had some setbacks, distractions but ultimately knowing that the decisions made turned out to be correct, the setbacks were actually a step up and just got back to enjoying why I'm a COACH.

How have you changed a challenge/crises and turned it in to an opportunity?

For the most part, the guys I've been fortunate enough to coach want to prove two things: they can play at a high HS level and they will accept whatever challenges come their way. I don't schedule wins in November and December (so if we are playing it's because I respect your team and you as a Coach). I want to face adversity early and often. Does our record suffer? Sure it does. But I don't know any HS Coaches that get raises for 20 win seasons. (If they do, let me know where....!)

It is August and you are back at school. Do you have any advice for coaches?

The season can be a marathon. I prefer to turn it into 3 sprints. Pre-season - In-Season - Late-Season. You want to be your best Late.  Don't stress so much over the Pre season that you miss out on being ready for the Season. I know a lot of guys tweeting, texting, posting "<blank> days until basketball season!" That's cool I guess. I'm more excited about seeing our guys back in the halls, getting some individual and small group work outs and just enjoying them and time.
